Anabolic steroids are synthetic derivatives of testosterone. Certain clinical effects and adverse reactions demonstrate the androgenic properties of drugs of this class. Complete dissociation of anabolic and androgenic effects has not been achieved. Thus, the effects of anabolic steroids are similar to those of male sex hormones, with the possibility of serious impairment of growth and sexual development if given to young children. They inhibit the gonadotropic function of the pituitary gland and may have a direct effect on the testes. Stanozolol (anabolic steroids) have been found to increase low-density lipoprotein levels and decrease high-density lipoprotein levels. These changes are not associated with an increase in total cholesterol or triglycerides and return to normal after discontinuation of treatment.

Method of administration and dosage

Hereditary angioedema. Dosage requirements for continuous treatment of hereditary angioedema with STROMBA should be selected individually based on the patient’s clinical response. It is recommended that the patient start with 10 mg/day. After a favourable initial response in terms of preventing episodes of oedema attacks has been obtained, the correct ongoing dose should be determined by reducing the dose at one to three month intervals to a maintenance dose of 10 mg/day. Some patients can be successfully administered 10 mg every other day. Careful monitoring of the patient’s response is indicated during the dose selection phase, especially if the patient has a history of respiratory tract involvement.

The prophylactic dose of STROMB for use before tooth extraction or other traumatic or stressful situations has not been established and may be significantly higher.
