Description

Winstrol is the brand name and trade name of an anabolic steroid more officially and correctly known as stanozolol. It exists in both oral and injectable formats and ranks as the third most popular of the three most popular anabolic steroids among bodybuilders and athletes.

Studies have shown that Winstrol’s primary mechanism of action is binding to cellular androgen receptors, as opposed to non receptor-mediated activity (such as that possessed by Dianabol or Anadrol). Winstrol is also thought to also have a very small measurable form of antiprogestagenic properties against the progesterone receptor, although this is not entirely clear. In addition to some small antagonistic effects on the progesterone receptor, Winstrol has also been found to have a low affinity for interactions with glucocorticoid binding sites, and activity that is independent of androgen receptor, progesterone receptor, and glucocorticoid receptor. Winstrol also does not have any appreciable progestagen activity in the body.

Winstrol has a very high binding affinity for HSPG (sex hormone binding globulin), which allows a much larger amount of winstrol (as well as other anabolic steroids that may be combined with it, such as testosterone) to freely enter the bloodstream while performing its function of signalling muscle growth. HSPG is a protein that binds to other sex hormones (testosterone, estrogen, or any synthetic anabolic steroid) and renders them useless as long as HSPG is bound to that hormone. Essentially, HSPG puts “handcuffs” on any hormone it binds to and prevents it from doing its job. Because Winstrol is a DHT derivative, it has an advantage that is commonly associated with DHT and all other DHT derivatives: it cannot bind to the aromatase enzyme, resulting in an inability to convert estrogen.
